Western Province emerged victorious in Marathon events of the 44th National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Padeniya, Kurunegala on Sunday (13).
Western Province claimed wins in both men's and women's categories of the marathon events as they swept the first three places in the men's category.
D.G.D. Sanaruwan clocked 2 hours and 26.23 minutes to claim the first place in men's while his team mates from Western Province claimed the second and third places.
With a timing of 2 hours and 26.58minutes S.D. Gunasekara finished at second place followed by Mahesh Gunathilaka who timed 2 hours and 28.36 minutes to give Western Province a clean sweep.
In the women's event Western Province's Sujani Perera clocked 2 hours and 55.3 minutes to claim the first place, followed by team mate Kumari Fernando, who finished with a timing of 3 hours and 02.06 minutes at second place.
A.S.N. Bandara of Sabauagamuwa Province clocked 3 hours and 07.08 minutes to finish at third place.
