Named after two outstanding personalities who served Royal College and D.S. Senanayake College with distinction the Alles-Gunasekera' inaugural Basketball encounter between Royal College and Gateway College is scheduled to take place on February 17 at HSC Blues Basketball Court, at Pedris Park, Havelock Town, commencing at 3.30pm.
R.I.T. Alles, the founder Principal of D.S. Senanayake College did yeoman service to the school in uplifting the standard of Education, Sports and discipline.
Late E. Christie Gunasekera, a Royalist himself, a long standing Vice Principal of the college and former President of the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association was a highly respected teacher for his unrelenting commitment to uplift discipline and standard of the school during his days.
Tharindu Pasan Balasooriya leads Royal College with a distinction of leading the side to three titles.
They defeated traditional rivals S. Thomas' to win the D.S. Senanayake Challenge Trophy and also the National School Games Basketball title and the Papare Basketball Championship.
An allround sportsman Ishira Ritigahapola is at the helm of Gateway College.
The school had continually done well in Basketball from the junior level upwards.
Monash University of Australia and Malaysia will be the Principal sponsor of the event.
Matches scheduled to take place on 17 February:
3.00pm: Under-15 Boys match
4.00pm: Under-19 Girls' invitation match
5.15pm: Under-19 Boys' match.
