Two fine knocks by fourteen- year-old opener Supun Sumanarathna (91) and junior national star Damitha Silva (87) helped Maliyadeva College to reached 299 for 8 by the close in their drawn 33rd Battle of the Rocks' encounter against St Anne's College Kurunegala which concluded at the Welagedara Stadium Kurunegala on Saturday (12).
Sumanarathna hit 17 fours for his 243 ball knock on his big match debut while Damitha Silva made a stylish 87 in just 102 balls with 10 fours and 3 towering sixes.
They put on 76 runs for the sixth wicket. Sumanarathna was also involved in a 75 run stand for the fifth wicket with Kaveen Bandara (42).
St Anne's made 282 in their first innings on day one thanks mainly to Randeera Ranasinghe who made 70 with one six and 9 fours.
Junior national star Damitha Silva with 87 and 5 for 85 on day one was named man of the match.
The one day match between the two sides will be played on Monday the 14th at same venue.
