The Central Province Carrom Championship came to a close when K.G.S.J. Prasad and Gayani Ranasinghe were crowned as the Men’s and Women's champions.
The event was conducted at the Auditorium of YMCA, Kandy by the Ministry of Sports Central Province in collaboration with Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka.
This initiative was taken to select players for the National Sports Festival to represent Central Province as carrom is the newly introduced event for the NSF.
In the Men’s finals Prasad emerged winner over S.A.S. Senadi while Madushani Ranasinghe was beaten by Gayani in the Women’s final.
A.N.M. Ameer and Jeewanthi Ariyawansa positioned at third places of both Men’s and Women’s events respectively.
The championship was organised on the directions of Director of Sports Central Province, W.G.M. Hemantha Kumara and Provincial Sports Officer Mrs Wasana Ekanayake and was participated by players from Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The event commenced last weekend under the supervision of Sri Lanka Carrom Federation and the following 14 players- Men and Women were selected to represent Central Province at the National Sports Festival.
Men’s team: K.G.S.J. Prasad, S.A.S. Senadi, A.N.M. Ameer, I.N. Kalansuriya, A.G.M.P. Bandara, G.C.U. Kumara and R.A.J. Wickremasinghe
Women’s team: Gayani Ranasinghe, Madushani Ranasinghe, Jeewanthi Ariyawansa, Achini Marapana, Kaveesha Ranasinghe, Hasangi Kavindya and Tharushi Saubhagya
