Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya has been banned from cricket for a period of one year, according to reliable information.
Dananjaya visited the Center for Sports Science (CSS) of the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in Chennai for the second time this year, to get his bowling action reassessed.
Following the tests, it is said that it has been found Dananjaya's action is beyond the allowed limit of 15 degrees, and during the ban he will have to correct his action before making a comeback.
Dananjaya, was accompanied by Jerome Jayaratne, the Chief Operating Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), to Chennai, and the official outcome of his reassessment test is yet to be revealed by the SLC.
Dananjaya was reported of suspect illegal bowling action by the match officials of the first Test played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand on August 18 at Galle, along with New Zealand skipper.
Dananjaya was supposed to face a reassessment test within 14 days from being reported and was allowed to play until the report is officially released.
Dananjaya was reported late last year during England's tour of Sri Lanka and was officially banned from bowling in international matches.
He was tested in Chennai, accompanied by the then spin bowling coach Piyal Wijetune, and was cleared by the ICC during mid February this year.
Dananjaya has claimed 33 Test wickets in six games, and has 51 ODI wickets from 36 games, with an addition of 16 international wickets from Twenty20s.
