Sport

Cricket administrator and enthusiast Ashroff Ghany was re-elected President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Umpires' Association (SLCUA) at its Annual General Meeting held at the Global Towers in Colombo on March 22.

Ghany, a former member of the Public Service Commission, Western Province and former President of the Sri Lanka Nationalized Services Sports Federation stated that the Nationalized Service Cricket Association (NSCA) has always had the services of the SLCUA umpires to almost all of their matches.

"It's really overwhelming to see the State Services Cricket Association fully endorsing the SLCUA by assigning our umpires for the matches. The SLCUA has improved its status with quality service and we will continue to do so with better improvements in the future," Ghany stated.

D.N. Pathirana, a former international umpire, was elected the Senior Vice President and E.K.S. Wijewardhana and Austin Fernando were elected as the two Vice Presidents.

J.W.K. Boteju, another former international umpire, and a match referee for Sri Lanka Cricket, was elected the Assignment Secretary.

Boteju and young Colombaarachchi along with Pathirana are presently doing a yeoman service for the SLCUA according to Ghany.
