Cricket: Indika de Saram's Maroons win Matara Super League T20 title

The Maroons, led by Indika de Saram, won the inaugural Matara Super League Twenty20 Cricket Championship, beating The Greens by 28 runs in the final at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara on Sunday (16).

Maroons batting first scored 122 runs for the loss of nine wickets with Wikum Sanjaya Bandara top scoring with an unbeaten knock of 30.

Chalanaka Weerasinghe claimed two wickets while Ashen Deemantha picked a scalp. 

Chasing a moderate target, the Greens failed to live up to their expectation, as Chanaka Komasaru became their nightmare after claiming four wickets, to bowl them out for 94 runs. 

Wikum Sanjaya Bandara returned to capture two wickets despite worthy knocks from Ashen Deemantha (21), Ramesh Nimantha (20) and Himasha Liyanage (18), the Greens failed to reach the target. 

In the semi-finals the Greens beat Matara Stars while the Maroons overcame Sportec Blasters. 

Shashni Ahmed of Sportec Blasters was adjudged the Player of the Tournament while the Maroons' Wikum Sanjaya Bandara was named the Player of the Final.

A total of 12 teams competed in the inaugural tournament.

The Greens 151 all out (18.1) (Kavindu Umesh 30, Nimanda Subasinghe 20, Ashen Deemantha 19, Ruwan Sampath 3/23, Anushka Ramanayake 2/16)

Matara Stars 87 all out (17) (Pubudu Edirisinghe 19, Chanuka Dilshan 4/18, Ashen Deemantha 2/25)

Semi-final 2: Sportec Blasters beat The Maroons by 23 runs on parabola system

The Maroons 119 all out (19.3) (Ashan Dinura 25n.o., Nimantha Kaveeshwara 20, Saliya Saman 5/18)

Sportec Blasters 78 for 5 wickets (14.5) (Nisal Ranasinghe 19, Chanak Komasaru 2/10, Lasith Lakshan 1/16)
