Right-arm paceman Nuwan Kulasekara announced his retirement from Test cricket today (1), stating that he intends to concentrate more on the shorter formats of the game.
He had officially announced of his decision to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a letter.
“I would like to retire from playing Test cricket with immediate effect. After much thought I believe it is the right time to retire and I hope it will allow me to better prepare for ODI and T20 cricket, which I would like to continue playing for Sri Lanka subject to good performance and selection,” Kulasekara had stated in his letter to SLC.
After debuting in 2005, Kulasekara has played 21 Tests, capturing 48 wickets, last playing at the Lords against England in 2014.
However, he is considered as a versatile player at ODIs and Twenty20s for Sri Lanka.
So far Kulasekara has played 173 ODIs, ranking as the No.1 bowler in March 2009.
