The five-day SLT Speed Up 2017 Cycle Tour will commence on July 25 from Colombo, and conclude at Embilipitiya on July 29.
This Cycle tour has the highest paid cash awards.
The Men’s overall winner will receive a cash award of Rs 1 million.
The winner of the Women’s race, which is a 1-day event, will receive Rs 200,000.
Both winners- Men and Women- will receive total cash awards of Rs 3.5 million.
The total distance of the Men’s race is over 750km.
The Women’s race is a distance of 70km.
Entries for the race closed on Thursday (20), where the organisers were expecting over 150 riders,
The Men’s race starting on July 25, will be from Colombo to Puttalam.
There are two stages on July 26.
The first stage here is from Karuwalagaswewa to Vavuniya.
After a break, the 2nd Stage will be from Vavuniya to Trincomalee.
On July 27, the race will be from Trincomalee to Dambulla.
On July 28, the race will be from Dambulla to Badulla.
On the last day, July 29, the race will be from Badulla to the finish at Embilipitiya.
The Women’s race on July 29, will be from Ratnapura to Embilipitiya.
Dharshana Prasad of the Sri Lanka Navy ‘A’ team was the overall winner in 2016, in 18 hrs, 29 min, 53 sec.
The Women’s race winner was N.S.P. Sulochana of the Sri Lanka Air Force, in 2 hrs, 31 min, 03 sec.
