Cricket: Sooriya Resort win Negombo Hotels 6s

Debutant Sooriya Resort, Waikkala, emerged winners of the annual Negombo Inter-Hotels Cricket 6s 2016, beating Jetwing Blue, Negombo in the Final, at the Sir Albert F. Peiris Sports Complex, Wennappuwa last week. 

The 40th edition of this colourful event, was organised by the Negombo Hoteliers Association (NHA) was participated by 22 men's teams and 6 women's teams. 

In the inaugural Women's 'Sixes',Jetwing Beach took the title, beating Golden Sun Beach Hotel, Negombo. 

The Men's final played in the fading light, was stretched, as it got dragged on to the wicket keepers contest when the match ended in a 'tie'. 

The Sooriya Resort wicketkeeper, N. Nalinda bowled a splendid over, giving away only 7 runs in 5 balls and Sooriya Resort required only one ball to achieve victory, as Jetwing Blue captain, Nishantha Fernando, who was the w/k bowled a no-ball which was hit for a six. 

Minister of Sports, Dayasiri Jayasekera was the Chief Guest at the awards ceremony.

The Minister along with P. Gomez, the Past President of NHA, Daniel Ludwig GM, Club Hotel Dolphin, Waikkala, Merril Kuruppu, Past President NHA, Ivan Dassanayake, GM, Ranweli Holiday Resort and Dinesh Sooriyasena MD of Goldi Sands and Sooriya Resort distributed the awards.
