Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya has been suspended from bowling with immediate effect by the International Cricket Council (ICC), after it was found that the bowler's action was illegal.
The ICC made this announcement on Monday (10) after its assessment revealed that Dananjaya's deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.
"In accordance with Article 11.1 of the ICC Regulations For The Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspect Illegal Bowling Actions, Dananjaya’s international suspension will be recognised. In addition the suspension will be enforced by all National Cricket Federations for domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction," international media reported.
But, Sri Lanka Cricket could allow Dananjaya to bowl, according to Article 11.5 of the ICC Regulations, in domestic cricket competitions conducted by the SLC.
Dananjaya was first reported with a suspect bowling action during the first Test against England played at Galle in which the visitors won by 211 runs.
Dananjaya underwent an independent assessment of his bowling action on November 23 at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane and stands eligible to apply for a re-assessment after modifying his bowling action according to clause 4.5 of the ICC Regulations.
