Two months after the International Cricket Council (ICC) instructed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to appoint a management committee to assist the Competent Authority in running cricket matters in the interim, the Sports Minister is expected to make the appointment on Monday (5).
Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha said on Saturday that a five-member committee will be appointed in keeping with the ICC requests.
Minister did not reveal the names of those who will form the five-member committee but said they are five individuals of social standing in various fields--a lawyer, a former president of the Institute of Charted Accountants and three Chief Executive Officers representing to business entities in the country.
Sri Lanka Cricket elections have been delayed since May 31, following an Appeal Court order stopped the May 31 election of office bearers.
Sports Minister then appointed Ministry Secretary Kamal Padmasiri as the Competent Authority to take over SLC after former President Thilanga Sumathipala’s term came to an end.
SLC membership will meet on November 12 to take the first step towards conducting long overdue election by appointing the election committee.
The election committee has been empowered to conduct the election.
