Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) launched the Super Provincial Tournament in Colombo, the topmost domestic fixture in the country, in terms of longer version of the game.
The 4-Day game competition, which will start from March 30, will consist of six games and each team will get three apiece, while all the nationally contracted players are set to take part in the tournament.
The four teams, named after the Districts which SLC has established ‘Centres of Excellence,’ namely Colombo, Galle, Kandy and Dambulla will be captained by top Sri Lankan National players.
Test captain Dinesh Chandimal will lead the Colombo team while Suranga Lakmal, the Vice-Captain of the Test team will lead the Galle team.
Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka captain of the shorter version will lead the Kandy team, while Test Opener Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the Dambulla team.
Most of the games will be played at international venues, while the tournament will see two Day/Night games being played off using the pink ball, as a precursor to the upcoming West Indies tour of the national team.
The games will be played at BOI ground in Katunayake, Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa and Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
This year’s fixture, was rescheduled in order to make room for the tournament to be used as a precursor to the West Indies Tour of the national team.
