Sri Lanka swimmer Akalanka Peiris has been drafted to the Men's Swimming 100m Backstroke event after placing sixth in the Heat 2 at the Commonwealth Games 2018 today (5).
Peiris clocked 58.68seconds in the Heat 2 which was won by Corey Main of New Zealand with a timing of 54.00seconds.
Peiris and Malaysia's Jian Han Tern (58.10secs) have been placed as reserves for the Men's 100m Backstroke semi-finals.
Markus Thormeyer of Canada and Conor Ferguson of Northern Ireland were placed second and third respectively in the heats.
South Africa's Calvyn Justus and Ghana's Jason Arthur were placed fourth and fifth respectively ahead of Peiris.
