Sri Lanka's Matthew Abeysinghe qualified for the semi-final of Men's 50m Freestyle Swimming event while establising a national record at the Commonwealth Games 2018 today (9).
Competing in Lane 8, Abeysinghe clocked 22.65seconds to finish fourth in the Heat 7, where two Australians and a Canadian topped the list.
His timing gives Abeysinghe the eighth Sri Lanka record with two of them being recorded at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
On Saturday (7), Abeysinghe clocked 49.11seconds in the Men's 100m Freestyle event to claim the Sri Lanka record.
He will compete in Lane 1 in the Men's 50m Freestyle Semi-final 2, which is scheduled for 4.12pm today, Sri Lanka time.
