The Samaposha Under-15 All-Island Inter-Schools Football Tournament will commence on Tuesday (13) on an all-island basis.
The tournament is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association and is being coordinated by the Sri Lanka Football Federation.
For the eighth successive year the event is being sponsored by Plenty Foods and will be played for the Samaposha Trophy.
The tournament is for both boys’ and girls’.
There will be 12,000 players taking part in the tournament featuring 500boys’ teams and 150 girls’ teams.
All 25 districts will be taking part in the competition from 25 zones.
The final round will be October 28 to 31 in Polonnaruwa.
A total of 32 boys’ teams and 24 girls’ teams will be selected for the final round.
Other than the champions, runners-up and third place winners, the best player boys’ and girls’, best goal keepers boys’ and girls’ will be selected.
Last year the final matches were held in Colombo where Zahira Colombo beat Kinniya Central College to win the boys’ title.
In the girls’ final Mahajana College Jaffna emerged champions beat Kavisigamuwa Central College Kurunegala in the final.
