Eight of Sri Lanka’s top football teams will vie for honours when the Mayor's Cup Football Championship kicks off at the Sugathadasa Stadium from Sunday (6).
The tournament will see seven elite teams of the country contesting for the cup, while the eighth team is made up with the talented players from the remaining teams that are uninvited for the competition.
In addition to the Mayor's team, Java Lane, Saunders, Blue Star, Colombo FC, Super Sun, Renown SC and Crystal Palace will compete in this tournament.
The final of the Mayor’s Cup will be held on December 12 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
The tournament is organised by the Colombo Municipal Council with support of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
The winning team will be awarded the trophy, silver medals in addition to the most valuable player of the tournament who will be presented a special trophy.
