The Kandy Regional Junior Open Golf Championship will be played at the picturesque Victoria Golf and Country Club, Rajawella over two days from August 6 to 7.
With golf growing in popularity, the Sri Lanka Golf Union has now got more than 50 entries for the Regional Junior Open.
Golf development programs for Juniors are being actively carried out with the help of the Sri Lanka Golf Union.
“We believe that these young golfers would go on for national representation and such tournament opportunities would create the platform for the juniors to shine,” said Niloo Jayatilake, Chairperson of Junior Golf Development Committee of the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU).
The top positions are being vied for in four age group categories Gold (15-17 years),Silver (12-14 years), Bronze (10 -11 years) and Copper (9 years and under).
The top ranked players in 2015 and winners of the Sri Lanka Open 2015 are expected to keenly compete to maintain their current ranking as well.
It is a tournament that is open to both boys and girls under the age of 18 years and is a very important tournament in the golfing calendar as it will be considered for national ranking points in 2016.
Sri Lanka has produced many talented golfers who have started as Juniors and it will be interesting to watch how the present crop of youngsters like Tania Balasuriya, K. Danushan, Dilshan Malinda, Kayla Perera, Hiruna Siegera, Levon Niyarepola, Vinod Weerasinghe, S. Flamin, S. Praveenraj, Nirekh Tejwani, Yannik Kumara, Mahisha Hirushan and Vikash Tangadore battle it out over the two days in a truly award winning Internationally designed golf course.
The prize giving would be held on Sunday (7) after the second round at noon time and Prima Sunrise Bread Representatives will be on hand to distribute their tasty goodies to all the golfing youngsters taking part.
