The 'Golden Awards' Ceremony organised by Matale Old Thomians Hockey Association (MOTHA) to felicitate ten past stickers of national and international fame produced from Matale, who still stand tall as a Landmark in Matale's hockey history, took place at Edward Park hockey ground Matale prior to the main awards presentation ceremony.
The President of Matale Old Thomians Hockey Association P. Vasudevan, in his welcome address expressed his sincere and deep gratitude to these players, who contributed immensely to promote and uplift the standard of hockey at school, district and national level as players, coaches and umpires.
The President of MOTHA presented each of the following past players, Jayampathi Perera, Chandra Wijekoon, Ananda Liyanage, Dr. R. Mahendra, Tissa Etipola, Farook Mohatha (Matale Old Thomians), G.H. Rupasinghe (Old Vijayan), Seyed Ajuward, T.A. Kamaldeen and Major General A.S.M. Zaheer (Old Zahirians Matale) who brought great prestige to Matale in Particular and Country in general, with a beautiful plaque and a certificate of appreciation.
