Colombo ‘Reds’, Kandy ‘Blues’ and Matale ‘Golds’, qualified for the boys’ quarter-finals at the Sri Lanka Combined Schools Hockey Tournament at the Astro Turf, Reid Avenue on Saturday (10).
In the girls’ tournament Kandy ‘Blues’ qualified for the semi-finals on the first day of the event at the at the Royal College grounds.
Twelve boys’ schools teams and nine girls’ teams are taking part in the tournament.
The Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association (SLSHA) is conducting these tournaments.
These are the first tournaments of the SLSHA for the year. In the coming months, before October, four schools tournaments are scheduled to be held.
In the boys’ first round Colombo ‘Reds’ beat Kandy ‘Blues’ 3-0, Colombo ‘Blues’ beat Puttalam 4-1, Galle ‘Golds’ beat Matale ‘Maroons’ 4-1. Matale ‘Golds’ beat Kandy ‘Whites’ 1-0, Colombo Reds beat Kalutara 7-0, Puttalam beat Galle ‘Maroons’ 6-0, Gampaha brat Galle ‘Golds’ 2-0, Matale ‘Golds’ beat Jaffna 6-0 and Kandy ‘Blues’ beat Kalutara 7-0.
In the girls tournament Colombo ‘Reds’ beat Kalutara 1-0, Matale ‘Maroons’ beat Gampaha 1-0, Kandy ‘Blues’ beat Colombo ‘Blues’ 1-0, Matale ‘Golds’ beat Jaffna 1-0, Kandy ‘Whites’ beat Colombo ‘Reds’ 1-0, Kalutara beat Gampaha 7-0, Kandy ‘Blues’ beat Matale’ Golds’ 4-0, Jaffna beat Colombo ‘Blues’ 1-0 and Kandy ‘Whites’ beat Matale ‘Maroons’ 3-0.
The quarter-finals of the boys’ tournament and the semi-finals will be worked off on Sunday (11) at the Astro Turf.
Both finals will be worked off on Monday (12) with the girls’ final scheduled for 1.30pm and the boys’ final at 3.30pm.
