Malaysia handed Sri Lanka an unexpected defeat of 38-32 to reach the semi-final stage of the 10th Asian Netball Championship in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday (3).
At halftime Sri Lanka trailed by a point 17-18 as both teams battled to end the first quarter deadlocked at 9-9.
However Malaysia added more pressure on the Sri Lankans during the third quarter and went on to maintain the lead until the end of the game.
Sri Lanka will face their crucial group game against Brunei today (4) with hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
On Tuesday (2) Sri Lanka thrashed Japan by 67-14 after receiving a walkover from the UAE.
Malaysia are leading Group 'B', where Sri Lanka is also drafted while defending champions Singapore are comfortably placed on top of Group 'A'.
