Netball: Sujatha emerge champs at Unity Challenge Trophy Festival

Sujatha College Matara emerged the Under-15 and Under-17 champs at the Down South Netball Festival organised by the Unity Sports Club and held at the German Sri Lanka Football Ground in Uyanwatte.   The Under-15 final between Sujatha College and Kotapola National School was a cliff hanger with Sujatha ending ultimate victors at 22 points to 21.   Sujatha overcame St. Mary's Convent while Kotapola NS overcame Keerthi Abeywikrema Vidyalaya to reach the final. St Mary's Convent won the play off for the third spot.   Teams from twelve schools in the Matara District were invited for the Under-17 tournament.   Sujatha’s Sumudu Nirosha Jayashani was named the best attacker while Madara Devindi was named the best defender and Wathsala Siriwardena was named the Best Under-15 Player at the tournament.   The victorious Sujatha College Under-15 netball team comprised of K M Dihini Shehara, K S Hansi Wasana, Umashi Wijethunga, Janani Prasadi Perera, Tharumila Ruwanya, Manashi Siphara Mayawila, Disni Nimethma, Madara Devindi Balasooriya, Sumudhi Nirosha Jayashani, Wathsala Siriwardena, Maheesha Piyumali Kodikara and Tharushi Harindika.   In the Under-17 final Sujatha Vidyalaya overcame Keerthi Abeywickrema Vidyalaya Morawaka by 24 points to 19.   Sujatha Vidyalaya defeated St Marys Convent while Keerthi Abeywickrema Vidyalaya defeated Kotapola National School to reach the final.   St. Mary’s Convent won the play off for third place. Twelve teams were invited for the Under-17 tournament.   Rasodya Udayangani was named the best attacker in the Under-17 age group while Chamasha Hiruni was named the best defender.   Nithmi Ruvindya was adjudged the best Under-17 player.   The victorious Sujatha Vidyalaya Under-17 Netball team was made up from Tharani Dilshika, Yelani Nethmini, Madushi Jayanatha, Javindi Thathsarani, Nithmi Ruvindya, Sakuni Madara, Rashmi Praobodha, Pamodi Bhashika, Tharushi Dineshika, Binuri Kasara and Minosha Dewmini.
