Kandy SC thwarted a late rally from Havelocks SC to emerge unbeaten winners of the Dialog League Rugby Championship, while Fazil Marija earned a fitting farewell with a hat-trick at Nittawela on Sunday (11).
Kandy beat Havelocks 30-28 after leading 22-0 at halftime as Marija accounted for three tries out of the four tries, two conversions and two penalties recorded by the winners.
Havelocks scored all their points in the second half with four converted tries.
Incidentally flyhalf Marija, who turned out his last match for Kandy SC last Sunday (11), retired from active rugby.
