Despite Sri Lanka's last minute loss to China by 21-22 in the Third Place Playoff, the Tuskers managed to finish Overall second behind Hong Kong and reach the qualifiers of the World Series.
After losing the eventual winners Hong Kong 7-19 in the Cup semi-finals, Sri Lanka played against China in the Third Place Playoff, only to be stunned by them in the final couple of minutes.
Sri Lanka were leading 21-7 before two minutes from the final whistle but China turned tables by scoring three tries during that phase.
The home team had to finish fourth in the third and final Leg of the Asian 7s Series but overall they ended up at second to Hong Kong.
Hong Kong went on to clinch the Cup championship for the third consecutive occasion in this year's Asian 7s Series beating South Korea by 24-19.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Women finished overall seventh after losing to Singapore in the Plate final by 7-12.
