Sri Lanka secured the third place at the ARFU Rugby 7s third leg after defeating Malaysia 45-12 in the third place playoff played at the Race Course International Stadium in Reid Avenue on Sunday (11). The main title was won by Japan who stamped their supremacy in the Asian rugby circuit defeating Hong Kong 29-22 in the Cup championship final after leading 17-12 at halftime. In the Cup semi-final Japan beat Sri Lanka 26-19, after the host nation pulled off a sensational 19-12 victory against South Korea in the Cup quarter-final. South Korea beat Chinese Taipei 17-7 to win the Plate Championship. Japan also won the Cup Championship in the Women’s Tournament after beating China 33-12 in the final, after leading 19-0 at halftime.
