The participation of Sri Lanka at the Asian Development Women’s Sevens Series in Chennai has been withdrawn by the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) according to reports.
IRFU officials have highlighted security concerns as their reason not to feature Sri Lanka in the two-day competition which is scheduled to be held on February 20 and 21.
Besides hosts India and Sri Lanka, South Korea, Nepal and Guam form the five countries in the Development tier by Asian Rugby Football Union’s (ARFU).
IRFU officials had waited till Tuesday (16) to inform their decision of withdrawing Sri Lanka from the Chennai leg of the series to the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) formally.
The Sri Lanka team was due to leave on Thursday (18).
SLRFU is on the verge of brining this issue to the notice of ARFU and International Rugby Board.
