Shooting: Amandika Amarasinghe emerges the best at NSSF Award Ceremony

Young shooting sensation Amandika Amarasinghe was named the Best Athlete of the Year at the National Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) Awards Ceremony 2019, which was held at the Raffles Banquet Hall in Kotte on Saturday (23). 

Amamdika, representing Sri Lanka Schools at national meets, dominated the evening by winning important segments, including the Best Young and Junior Athlete of the Year. 

She won gold medals in the 10M Air Rifle Open for Women, while also bagging the Best Performance in the Youth Rifle and Pistol category at the NSSF Nationals 2019. 

L.L.B. Wijayarathna, also a young shooter representing Sri Lanka Schools, bagged the Best Emerging Athlete of the Year award. 

Jeremy Fernando won the Best Emerging Shotgun Athlete of the Year award. 

Athugala Sport Shooting Club won the Best Emerging Club of the Year, while Johann Fernando went on to emerge the Best Shotgun Athlete of the Year for 2019. 

Sri Lanka Naby emerged Team Event Champions, while Sri Lanka Army bagged the Overall Championship at the NSSF Awards Ceremony. 

Seven former shooting stars were presented with Lifetime Achievement Medals for their untiring contribution to uplift shooting sport in Sri Lanka. They were Brigadier A.M.A. Chandrasiri, Russel Gray, Pradeep Edirisinghe, Lt. Col. Thilak Dissanayake, incumbent NSSF President Shirantha Peries and Zal Chitty. 

Brigadier A.M.A. Chandrasiri, the former President of National Rifle Association graced the occasion ast the Chief Guest while Suresh Subramaniam, the Chairman of National Olympic Committee was the Guest of Honour.
