Former Sri Lanka captain and one of the greatest batsmen the country has produced, Kumar Sangakkara, will ring the iconic bell to signal five minutes prior to the start of play, on the first day of the third and final Test between England and Sri Lanka at Lord's today (9).
Sangakkara, 38, becomes the seventh Sri Lankan and the cricketer from the country to earn this accolade.
Previously Sanath Jayasuriya, Marvan Atapattu, Chaminda Vaas, Sidath Wettimuny, Arjuna Ranatunga and Kushil Gunasekara have received the honour of becoming bell ringers at Lord's.
Sangakkara, who plays for Sussex on the ongoing English County Series, appeared in 134 Tests for Sri Lanka scoring 12,400 runs at an average of 57.40.
The ringing of the five-minute bell at Lord’s by an international cricketer, administrator or well-known enthusiast of the sport is a tradition.
