Cherantha de Silva clocked 02 minutes and 05.10 seconds in the Men's 200metre Butterfly Stroke event to establish a new Sri Lanka record at the 53rd Milo/Pram Malaysia Open Swimming Championship held in Melaka from March 9 to 12.
Cherantha (21), a Sri Lanka national swimmer and FINA Scholarship holder bettered his own record of 02 minutes and 07.74 seconds set at the South Asian Games selection trials in December 2015 in Colombo.
At the Malaysia Open, Cherantha claimed a total of seven medals including three golds, three silvers and a bronze medal.
His gold medals came from the in Men's 100m Freestyle, Men's 50m Butterfly and Men's 100m Butterfly events while the three silver medals were from Men's 200m Butterfly, Men's 200m Individual Medley and Men's 50m Freestyle events.
He also claimed the bronze in the Men's 200m Freestyle event.
Cherantha won seven medals at the South Asian Games 2016 held in Guwahati, India.
