India swept the board to win four Gold medals in Team Events on the second day of the South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships 2017 at the St. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium Courts on Saturday (20).
With an unbeaten record in all four segments of the Team Championship young Indians exhibited a top class exhibition of table tennis as they won straight in Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls events.
The final tally stood with four Gold for India, Four Silver to Sri Lanka, two bronze for Maldives and one bronze for Pakistan.
In the Boys Team Championship India beat Sri Lanka 3-0, Pakistan 3-0, Maldives 3-0 and Bangladesh 3-0 to clinch the Gold medal. India beat Sri Lanka 3-0, Pakistan 3-0 and Maldives 3-0 In the Junior Girls event to win the Gold.
In the Cadet Boys segment it was India again defeated Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives and Bangladesh 3-0 to win the Gold and in the Cadet Girls the Indians made short work to trounce Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Maldives 3-0 to win the championship Gold medal.
Sri Lanka been runners-up in all four segments won four Silver medals. Much was expected from the Sri Lankan paddlers but went down tamely to India in the vital clashes.
Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 3-1 Maldives 3-0 and Bangladesh 3-0 in the Junior Boys segment and scored 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Pakistan and Maldives to win the Silver in the Junior Girls event.
With victories over Pakistan (3-0), Maldives (3-0) and a close call from Bangladesh (3-2) Sri Lanka occupied the second spot in the Cadet Boys Team Championship and in the Cadet Girls Team Championship young Lankan players beat Pakistan and Maldives 3-0 respectively to win the fourth silver.
Curtain will come down of the South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship 2017 on Sunday (21) with the finals of Singles and Doubles events.
