U-19 Cricket: Richmond take on Ananda in Division I 2-day final

Sport

The curtains of the Singer U19 Division One two day league cricket tournament will come down with the final clash between Richmond and Ananda scheduled to be played on Monday (8) and Tuesday (9) at Thurstan ground.

Richmond led by Sri Lanka youth captain Kamindu Mendis who are also the limited over champions will no doubt be seeking to achieve the double by winning the league tournament while Ananda led by Kavishka Anjula will be looking to deny their opponents of achieving the double.

In the run up to the final Richmond ended up their league campaign as the top team in Group 'A' with three outright wins from eight tournament matches played and secured 124.140 points to qualify to the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-final clash they recorded a first inning win over Mahanama Colombo and then overcame Thurstan in the semi-final with the same winning margin.

Ananda topped the Group 'B' with two outright wins and ended their league campaign with 103.140 points to advance to the quarter-final where they secured a first inning win against Maris Stella and then followed it up another first inning win against last year's joint champions St. Peter’s in the semi final.

So the stage is set for an interesting tussle between the two top teams in the league championship and a first inning lead would be sufficient for either of the team to emerge champion.
