Plans are afoot to introduce a set of new laws for school’s cricket Big Matches from next year.
Top level officials of the Ministry of Education are planning to introduce these laws.
The reason for this is that several complaints have been made to the Ministry of Education especially from girls’ schools and the general public and the girls’ schools are getting a bad name.
A recent incident was when boys from Mahanama College entered a girls’ school in Borella invaded Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya, Borella.
This has become a fashion since of late.
Even the Police cannot control the situation.
Sunil Jayaweera, Special Consultant Sports, Ministry of Education said that the Big Matches were played in a calm and peaceful atmosphere in the past but since of late violence has been creeping into them
“This is becoming a habit. We have also received a lot of complaints and even the principals of the schools cannot bring the situations under control.
“We are planning to have serious discussions with heads of schools involved in Big Matches to bring such situations under control from the new year. We are also planning to introduce special laws”, concluded Jayaweera.
