S. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia beat Isipathana College by 19-14 to win the Singer Schools Division ‘A’ Rugby Sevens after a long wait of 22 years at the Royal Sports Complex in Colombo on Sunday (31).
S. Thomas’ trailed by 0-7 but staged a gallant comeback by scoring three tries and a conversion.
Isipathana scored from two converted tries which came in each session.
S. Thomas’ beat Kingswood College 21-7 in the semi-final after defeating last year’s champions St. Peter's College by 14-12 in the quarter-finals.
The losing finalist, Isipathana beat Royal College 15-7 in the quarter-finals and overcame St. Joseph's College 22-7 in the semi-final.
Science College won the Plate Championship, beating St. Peter’s by 12-7 while Dharmaraja College thrashed Lalith Athulathmudali MV 52-8 to win the Bowl Championship.
The Singer Schools Under-20 Division ‘A’ Rugby Sevens, organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association, was held on February 30 and 31 at the Royal Sports Complex.
