St. Anthony's College beat Wesley through a last gasp drop goal by Samuel Maduwantha who took his contribution to the team total to 100 points as the match ended 23-22 in a thrilling Singer Schools U-20 League Championship match played at Nittawela on Saturday (18).
Wesley led at half time, through tries by Siriwardena, Sabar and Kuthubdeen.
Avishka Lee converted two of these.
The Anthonian trailed 13-19 at the break.
Duminda Hettiarachchi touched down in this half, while Maduwantha converted two penalties.
Jehan Seelagama’s second half try was made good once again by Maduwantha, while Lee put over a penalty for Wesley.
With the clock ticking by, Maduwantha, cool as cucumber, dropped a goal to take the game away from the visitors.
In winning, the Anthonians have qualified for the knockouts.
