Volleyball: National Organiser missing for over a year as sport marks its 100th year

Sport

Minister Dilan Perera, is in the verge of losing his position at the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation. Perera was the President of the Federation for the last eight years and is performing as the national organiser at present.

According to the constitution of the federation any member keeps away from attending council meetings for three consecutive times will lose his or her position automatically.

Dilan Perera had failed to attend a single meetings last year and this year.

It is learnt that another Vice President too keeps away from the meetings.

The ex-co of the Volleyball Federation is expected to take action on these two office bearers according to another official of the federation.

Minister Dilan Perera, a former President of the federation for eight continuous years was the only president to hold office for such a long time in the history of SLVF.

It is noted that Sri Lanka Volleyball celebrates its 100th year this year.

The game was introduced in 1996 by R.W. CaMac an American national who was the Director of Sports of the Colombo YMCA at that time.

So far the Volleyball Federation has made no plans to celebrate this occasion as a handful of sports bodies hold this proud record. Incidentally Volleyball is the national sport in the country from 1991.

It is noted that any official of the federation is not aware of the date and month first volleyball was introduced to Sri Lanka was the main reason for not making any arrangements to celebrate this important event.

In the book on the history of volleyball in Sri Lanka which was published by the federation when Dilan Perera was the president also not given the date and month of introduction of this sport.
