No sooner the Government lifted the curfew at 6 am today in the Colombo, Gampaha and a few other districts than the people began to gather outside economic centers, markets, supermarkets, wayside boutiques, groceries, pharmacies and fish and meat stalls. In queues outside supermarkets, the people were seen to be following the one meter social distancing rule required to minimize the possibility of contracting Covid-19. But at many places, panic buying got the better of them and they forgot the cardinal rule. The result: body-to-body queues. However, they all wore face masks or covered their noses and mouths with handkerchiefs.
