The intense dry weather conditions are expected to continue in March and April too, the Met. Department said.
Meteorology Department deputy director S.R.Jayasekare told The Sunday Times that cloudless skies during the day and less wind in the atmosphere were the major causes for the present dry weather.
According to Mr. Jayasekare although thunderstorms are to be expected in the Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central provinces in the evening it has no effect on bringing down the severe heat during the daytime.
“The situation would get worse with the wind blowing to some areas from the sea, increasing the humidity in the atmosphere that causes people to perspire,” he said.
He said the atmosphere would get more heated during the first week of April as the sun is directly over the island then.
