Why I chose to do my B.Sc. at University of Wales

Ashane Ranabahu - 2nd Year Business Student

I believe that a UK qualification is still the best in the world and it was important to me that I obtained a degree from a well recognized and a top ranking university. So I researched what other local universities had to offer.

I was approached by a spectrum of local universities that offered me an exemplary perception of well-grounded university education. Although the marketing pitch was alluring, I was not convinced of the scale and standard of the programmes offered, and their credibility in terms of recognition and validity.

I was introduced to the Imperial Institute of Higher Education (IIHE) which is a validated off-shore campus of the University of Wales; by a friend. He is a First Class Honours graduate of the university. Having successfully completed his university education, he was quick to find a very prospective job opportunity at a leading corporate firm, which enabled him to reach a managerial level in the hierarchy within a mere one and a half years.

What convinced me about IIHE is that the degree offered by IIHE, was an internal degree; which means it is the same degree offered by the UoW. While the content and course structure infused a local touch to the very practical sense of business administration, the distinguished and experienced panel of lecturers was also a plus point.

Today, I am pursuing my second year at IIHE. The first year we focused on the foundation of theoretical and conceptual business methodologies and practices, the second year provided a more hands-on, real-life corporate business approach to learning. With exposure to real life organizational problem-solving case studies, students are given a true to life first-hand experience into the business world.

Interaction with some of Sri Lanka's leading corporations gave us insights into aspects such as corporate planning and crisis management, it also enabled us to form strong links with leading personnel in the corporate sector, which would be an advantage in finding job placements after graduation. The BSc programme challenges us with problems as though we were already managers giving us a thorough grounding in becoming professionals. To date, my life at IIHE has been nothing short of remarkable. I am confident of becoming an asset to my workplace and being a well rounded individual in all aspects of life.
