What aspirations do you have for your children? Most parents want them to be successful and have the right attitude. Realizing these dreams begins with a school that combines academic preparation with strong character building in a nurturing environment where children enjoy their education. This is exactly what the Junior School at Wycherley International School does, right from the first day a child enters its play group class.
Rukayah Ahamed, Head Mistress of the Elementary Grades 1 & 2 said "the teachers of Wycherley Junior are trilingual and able to communicate easily with new entrants and parents. Many may not be conversant in English yet desire an international education in English for their child." With encouragement and caring teachers, securing placement in top-rated British universities like Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds, becomes easy.
The Junior School at Wycherley has five dedicated Head Mistresses with the distinction of having taught at the school for over two decades. Three of these experienced, capable, and dedicated professionals are in the elementary section overlooking the play group, the nursery and the lower kindergarten classes. This demonstrates the importance the school places on the critical formative years of a young child. Head Mistress of Primary, Indrani Nalliah has taught two generations of students. "We maintain a close family attitude, and we know all the children by name and are very much involved with them" she said.
ANC's new stake in Wycherley will strengthen and give added muscle to the continued education of the child. The higher education value offered by ANC ensures that Wycherley students will seamlessly move from primary and secondary to tertiary levels, while availing themselves of quality education in line with global standards and trends.
A unique feature of Wycherley is that it has a rich multi-cultural heritage where children of different ethnic groups and religions blend in and are made to feel happy and comfortable following their own faith and customs. "We are happy teaching the children and we are proud of the fact that our school is known for maintaining a high level of discipline that conservative parents seek" said Yoga Pathmanathan, Head Mistress for the Play Group, Nursery and LKG, adding that Wycherley Junior Campus adopts both AMI Montessori and pre-school systems.
Kadijah Badurdeen, Head Mistress for UKG added, "culturally we have a very good mix and respect every religion" adding that the school maintains "an open door policy…. parents can walk in at any time and talk to us." This has worked exceptionally well for Kadijah's own children. Her son Shiraz is now poised to become an internationally qualified doctor when he graduates from Cambridge next month, along with his friend Aravinda Page, another Wycherley star. They both started off at Wycherley from the Play Group. Shiraz came first in the island at London O/Levels and A/Levels and secured entry to Cambridge University with 4 more of his fellow students.
Yoga Coomarasamy, Head Mistress for the Junior section, proudly claimed that Cambridge University has praised Wycherley for the "calibre of students" they produced and were ready to welcome more of them. "We all play our part to bring out the best in our students through an atmosphere that inculcates good discipline" she said.
Wycherley was recently acquired by the ANC. It was another ambitious step by the Education Group to extend its scope in the education arena in the country. "We welcome the move that would bring greater value additions to our students and the school and we are very pleased with the improvements made within such a short period of time" said Indrani Nalliah, endorsing the school's new ownership that will result in enhanced infrastructure facilities and many value additions that would benefit the students significantly.
