It was not all hunky-dory, but St. Peter’s defended their Schools’ Milo President’s Trophy successfully for the third successive year by beating Isipatana at 16 points (2 tries and two penalties) to 11 points (a try and two penalties) in the final at the Royal College Sports Complex last evening. At half time the winners led by 13 points to 8.
It was Isipatana who drew first blood when their No 8 Tharindu Siriwardena crossed the Peterite defence to plant and unconverted try. The Peterites did not take this challenge lying low, and they scored twice through their skipper and flanker Poornaka Delpechitra, but ironically both efforts were registered as unconverted.
Then suddenly the Peterite fullback Amila Fernando found his kicking boots to put over a twenty metre penalty, but, this was answered by an Isipatana penalty soon after by centre Srinath Sooriyabandara, but, it was St. Peters who led at the half time. After the turn about the exchanges were the same and in this round too either side scored through a penalty each put over by Fernando and Sooriyabandara.
