The state has declared a war heroes felicitation week, commencing tomorrow, to celebrate the Army’s recapture of the strategically important town of Pooneryn in the North.
The national flag will be hoisted at all government buildings and schools will hold special programmes to explain to students the significance of the capture of Pooneryn, Minister of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Maithripala Sirisena told The Sunday Times.
During the weeklong programme, the government will put up posters and banners to felicitate the soldiers involved in the military operations.
Religious ceremonies will also be held to mark the event.
The minister said one of the objectives of the felicitation week was to encourage the public to give their support to the military and their families. |
