The Shimeck Learning Centre built by the US - Sri Lanka Friendship Association at Monrovia Estate in Ratgama is idling even three years after its opening.
This association also put up 50 houses for tsunami victims, all at a cost of US$ 300,000.
The Learning Centre is a two-storey building equipped with a library, computer room, a child development unit and a foreign language learning unit.
Computers, library books, pre-school education equipment, cupboards, chairs and other valuable office equipment are lying idle here.
The centre was opened by First Lady Ms. Shiranthi Rajapaksa on January 16, 2006. |
