31st night revelry scaled down this year

While some five-star hotels have cancelled their New Year’s Eve dances this year, others are going ahead with their 31st night plans.Security concerns, a lack of sponsors and cost-cutting are the main reasons for cancelling the big dances.

The Hilton and the Holiday Inn are among hotels not holding their usual big New Year’s Eve dances, but the management of both venues said there will be small-scale celebrations.

Hotels that have scheduled dinner dances that night include the Galle Face Hotel, the Galadari, the Cinnamon Grand and the Ceylon Continental. Ticket prices range from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 12,000 per head.
