Pillayan wants East to shine in education

By Sinniah Gurunathan, our Trinco correspondent

Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan stressed the importance of education at a text book distribution ceremony in Trincomalee last week.

The Chief Minister talks to a student who was awarded a prize for returning last year’s set of text books in good condition.

Speaking at the Trincomalee Zonal Education Office he said he had come to this position after seeing a lot of death and destruction and that he joined the liberation struggle as he could not continue his studies due to many social problems.

“I now realize the importance of education and have a dream to develop the Eastern Province in this field during my tenure in office,” he said adding that he sought the assistance of all to make this dream a reality.
