Motorists taken for a short ride

By Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe

Motorists who filled up their vehicles with petrol at a filling station in Anamaduwa yesterday faced immense difficulties subsequently when their vehicles stopped after going some distance and they had to haul their vehicles to garages to clean out the carburettors which were then found to contain petrol mixed with kerosene.

Anamaduwa Police had to temporarily close down the filling station as a result. The police also collected samples of petrol for inspection from the storage tanks located underground at the station premises and also from vehicles that filled up there.

Residents in the area said that although similar incidents had occurred at the same filling station in the past no action had been taken.

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation officials visited the filling station yesterday to carry out investigations.
