Pakistan has proposed a joint commission to probe last week’s Mumbai multiple terror attacks which left more than 190 civilians and security personnel dead.
"The purpose of the commission will be only to probe the Mumbai incident,” Pakistani Foreign Ministry’s Additional Secretary (South Asia) Aijaz Ahmad Chaudhry told a visiting Sri Lankan media delegation in Islamabad on Friday.

He said the proposed commission could be co-chaired by National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan and could include members from intelligence services from the two countries and other representatives.
"The Commission can meet at any place at any time", he said.
He said the proposal had been conveyed to India and Pakistan was awaiting a response.
Mr. Chaudhry said Islamabad was surprised that Pakistan had been implicated in the Mumbai attacks by India.
Meanwhile Pakistan said India had only sought action against three people as against its earlier list of 20 people whom India said were linked to the Mumbai attacks.
Rehman Malik, advisor to Prime Minister Yousaf Gilani told a news conference in Islamabad that of the three persons whose names were handed over, two of them were Indians and action could not be taken on the third unless India provided evidence against him.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari visiting Turkey yesterday told reporters that his country was till awaiting “concrete proof” that a Pakistan-based group carried out the devastating Mumbai attacks.
Zardari stressed the country was also a victim of terror and was carrying out its own investigation into the assault on Mumbai.
“Pakistan is currently doing its own internal investigation and is waiting for concrete proof to be handed over to us,” Zardari told reporters in Istanbul.
On Friday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said India has been angered “as never before” by the attacks as his new home minister hinted at growing evidence of Pakistani involvement. |
