Victim had just taken up a job in Colombo

By Damith Wickramesekara

On Friday night, at about 9.30 pm, Rajamani Prabhakaran, 23, stepped out of his boarding house in order to take a bath when he was hit in the stomach by a stray bullet and killed. The incident took place in Pranchawatte, Modera, Colombo 15.

The 23-year-old was the second casualty of Friday night’s barrage of shooting by the security forces to down the LTTE aircraft that was flying over Colombo.

Rajamani had arrived in Colombo the previous day from the hill station of Talawakelle to take up employment at a wine shop nearby.

The fatal bullet had entered through a tiny gap between the boarding house and the washroom.
A friend who was washing himself at a tap close to the washroom escaped unhurt.
