Chaminda Vaas |
A determined Chaminda Vaas is in no hurry in making his return to international cricket. However he says “When I make it I will be a new version of the Chaminda Vaas”.
Speaking to the Sunday Times the veteran of 322 One-Day internationals said “I have already begun to work with my childhood coach Carlton Bernadus who handled me from my days at St. Joseph’s College. He has found a few problems in my repertoire and we were working on them during his stay here”.
Vaas played “Nelson Test” which generally is the 111th against the visiting Pakistan team last week and failed to enjoy much success as a wicket taking bowler in spite of being very economical in the major portion of the game. In that Test which was his last in the longer version, Vaas bowled 39 overs which contained twelve maidens gave away 90 runs and took one wicket.
Explaining further on his future plans Vaas said “I also had a very frank chat with the former Australian great Glenn McGrath on the problems that have been identified lately and he too came up with a lot of suggestions and a programme that I have to work on.
There are some more internationals coming up, but I am in no major hurry. My goal is to be back in full throttle by the next World Cup in 2011 and besides the internationals, there are local tournaments to prove my worth and I am determined to be on song by then”.At present Vaas has 400 international wickets bagged in 322 ODIs in a career which spans for nearly one-and-a-half decades.
