Sattar, Aslam, Hashim and Sirisoma enter semis

The four quarter finals of the 57th National Billiards Championship completed at the Billiards and Snooker Association billiards table yesterday saw two players from Moors SC Abdul Sattar and S.H.M. Aslam along with Zuraish Hashim of Otters AC and K.H. Sirisoma of Sri Lanka Ports Authority winning their games.

Sattar in fact overcame another club mate of his A.A. Kareem while Aslam who was the runner up last year beat A. Jayaratne of YMBA and Sirisoma who is the defending champion had an easy passage against AAC’s W.A.J. Weerasinghe.

Sirisoma romped home with the minimum of which included four breaks of over 50. In fact he is the only cueist to have made breaks of over 50 in the championship so far.

The four cueists now advance to the semi finals which are scheduled to be played today. The two semi finals will be played over three hours with the first semi final due to be played at 11.00 a.m. between club mates Abdul Sattar and S.H.M. Aslam.

The second semi final is slotted to be played at 3.00 p.m. between Zuraish Hashim and K.H. Sirisoma. The final will be played tomorrow which will be over four hours in two sessions, the first at 1.00 p.m. and second at 4.00 p.m.

Quarter final results: Abdul Sattar (MSC) beat A.A. Kareem (MSC) (466/370). S.H.M. Aslam (MSC) beat A. Jayaratne (YMBA) (581/352). Zuraish Hashim (OAC) beat Tishan Samarasinghe (OAC) (501.299). K.H. Sirisoma (SLPA) beat W.A.J. Weerasinghe (AAC) (716/301).
