I am sure you would have been inspired by last week's story about the self made millionaire who was physically challenged due to two different accidents he had still having the can do mindset. I am also positive you would have heard many stories like this globally and in our own country too.
Being proactive really means two things. First, you take responsibility for your life. Second, you have a 'can-do' attitude. Can-do is very different from 'no-can-do'. Just take a peek.
If you think can-do, and you're creative and persistent, it's amazing what you can accomplish. American aviator Elinor Smith once said, 'It has long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things'.
It's so true. To reach your goals in life, you must seize the initiative. If you're feeling bad about things not happening to.
Reactive people always see Roadblocks like there is no way out: I can't do it, that's the way I am; only if I have more time I will do that this and the other; only If I have more resources I will be able to complete that project; always finding excuses… But Proactive people are different they don't see roadblocks instead they see "Alternatives" like there has to be a way out, I may not have spoken to the right person, with the available resources; how can I accomplish this task in hand? how can I find some more time to do this project?….
We see many people waiting to get the job offered to them, but, don't wait for that perfect job to fall into your lap, go after it. Send out your resume, network, and volunteer to work for free as that will give the right experience and knowledge for you to get to a level of bargaining. If you're at a shop and need assistance, don't wait for the sales person to find you, you find them.
Some people mistake can-do for being pushy, aggressive or obnoxious. It's wrong. Can-do is being courageous, persistent and smart. Others think can-do people stretch the rules and make their own laws. It's not so.
Can-do thinkers are creative, enterprising and extremely resourceful. In fact they look for resources, they look for opportunity for being creative, as we all know of a great quote "Necessity is the Mother of all inventions" so if we really need something and do not see the Roadblocks but the Alternatives we can always be very creative to find solutions.
Many people in the corporate sector more frequently ask me as to why our people do not take the initiative? It's very simple, their Paradigms drive their behaviour In other words they have been conditioned to live a life where things should fall on to their laps , they wait for resources and do not look for it, but the Proactive people go the other way and that's why they get things done.
Let's look at more of this in our next week's edition, till such time have a resourceful and proactive week. |
